Articles 3.1.5 messed up my site badly. Please help!4/4/2005 8:49:20 AM

0/0

I am using the articles module for dnn 3 but I am having problems http://www.efficionconsulting.com/Default.aspx?tabid=352

I added the module and added some articles and all seems fine. But the site also has another administrator. When he logs in, the images in the articles module are loaded incorrectly (red cross image in IE, you know when you mispell the img src=).

Besides that he cannot edit anything anymore! The administrator bar at the top of the portal is shown, but when he click on anything the page loads and he is logged out! This always happens since I installed the articles module.

The site default langaue is ducth and my account has default language english. So I thought i`d create a new account with english as default language. But the same problem! Now for a 'normal' user. The same problem with the articles module, with the red crosses and when you click a link and the site takes you to another page you are logged out.

The portal is located at http://www.gochem.nl/sensationwhite2005 you are welcome to register yourself and see for yourself.

I can't go back to the regular articles module because the one I downloaded and installed overwrites the old one. (at least I think). Besides, this new articles module looks read good.

What can I do to fix this?

Hey Phillip,
Just saw your post here... you're the first person to report a problem of this sort so I don't really know what's happening and it doesn't really make sense that my module could do this...

Can you right click on the red crosses and see what the path is for the image and how that compares to what you're seeing?

In the meantime, I'll go through the code and make sure I'm not mis-calling permissions stuff.

The link of the images that do not appear is:

http://www.gochem.nl/DesktopModules/Articles/MakeThumbnail.aspx?

Some more information:

- The default language of the website is dutch

- Everything works 100% when you visit as a guest

- Everything works great under my account.

- It doesn't work if my friend logs in. If he visit any other page then the one containing the Articles module everything works great. But if he visits the page containing the Articles module he cannot see the images (the red cross image instead of the normal images) and after clicking on a link he is logged out. Doesn't matter what he clicks (another page, add article, his account details...)

- Our accounts are the same, same default language (english), only our time-zone is diffrent.

- I changed my time-zone. Still works for me!

- If I create a new user and I login in, I also have the problem.

Hope this gives you more information. Like stated. If you create a new account, you can see the problem for yourself.

I've now created an account (it took awhile for me to receive my verification code) and logged in. Everything looks and works fine. No red crosses, no logout problems... do I need Admin rights to see the problem? Should I be using Dutch?

Could the problem be browser cache issues on your side?

I spoke too soon... I am seeing the logging out problem so that's not a browser cache issue... though it could be a server cache issue. Still I'll look into it.

Haven't had any problem seeing images.

try to log in with username test and password test.. That account also has the problem (just created that account).

I am at home now, I have also have the problem here. So I can reproduce it at work from behind proxy (BorderManager) with a firewall and at home which is a 10 mbit direct ethernet connection (yes I am lucky!), which also hosts the server.

Just to start off on an even more basic level regarding your friend's inability to edit anything anymore. He isn't by any chance in preview mode(little plus sign in the magnifying glass on the left side of the admin toolbar), is he? I know at first that concept confused me and it's still frustrating that I don't get edit ability when I'm "previewing"

I too registered on the site and can verify the same thing is happening to me. I'm guessing the lack of "edit" ability is a result of being logged out. Good luck! If you want me to do any testing, let me know.

Yes, I've verified this on his site as well... and I've tried to replicate it on my test site with no luck so far... I do plan to look into it further but I've got two deadlines I'm working on.

If anyone else is seeing this, please let me know so that we can try to isolate the causes.

i have experienced this on multiple sites i am working on as well. i running the articles module on a dnn 2 site (www.riverradio.net) and a dnn 3 (www.stephenk.net) site.

did you upgrade to the latest version of dnn 3 (3.0.13)?  if so did it have any effect?

i am still on 3.0.12 for one of my sites at the moment. also my host is webhost for life, the other is a local hosting comany.

wish you all luck, and thanks to the guys at eficion for the help.

let me know if i can help in anyway as well.

Alrighty then... 2 people are seeing this so it's definitely a real problem. The first step in being able to fix it is, I need to be able to replicate it. There have been over 1200 downloads of the module and you two are the only ones reporting this so far. So if you could tell me what you have in the way of non-default settings in host settings or if there are other modules installed that might affect logins or anything else unusual that you've done.

I do have some time this week so hopefully we can track it down.

Thanks,
David

the installation isn't really something unusual. Normal clean installation of 3.0.12 and upgraded to 3.0.13 after a while. Problem occurs on a child portal. Maybe something with languages. If needed I could arrange you to access the server.

Could you create a sub-domain and set that as an alias and then try accessing the site that way and let me know if you still see the problem? I'm thinking it might be a child portal problem.

Hi David,

This is just a wild guess since I have not used your Articles module.

There is a known error on authentication that when opening an independent page (.aspx) on a child portal it will log a non-superuser user out.  I have made a post on this but I guess noone had noticed. (http://forums.asp.net/886144/ShowPost.aspx)

Appending the portalid in the querystring of the page will usually solved the problem (just like the ftb3 imagegallery issue). i.e. /DesktopModules/Articles/MakeThumbnail.aspx?portalid=someportalid)
