Posting guidlines for this sub forum2/23/2006 5:16:15 PM

I've seen many posts in this sub forum that more or less advertise their modules. Is this actually ok?

I'm not complaining, I'd like to talk about new offerings of dnnrocks, and I want to make sure its ok by the rules or whatever.

thanks!

Darren

I think the easy answer is, no. If you want to announce new or updated modules, the best place to do that is in the announcment forum on the DNN site. Heck, the DNN site in general is where everyone should be posting, anyway Stick out tongue [:P] Besides that, it's really just about taste and how it applies to the posts. If someone is being helpful, then a selfless plug is typically acceptable.

ok, cool. DNN.com probably gets more views anyway, wouldn't you agree? ...I'm talking about those posts that are regarding dnn.

Here are two posts I've seen recently that announce here:

http://forums.asp.net/1199276/ShowPost.aspx

I guess if they did and were not moderated, it is ok.

Well, notice that both of those were from unmoderated users, so they may have slipped thru the cracks. Personally, I don't think they belong in this forum; but that might just be my opinion. I know there was a discussion by the DNN project team leads regarding advertising, but the true guidelines have yet to be released. It really depends on taste and applicability. The two you pointed out don't really apply, in my opinion, since they don't answer someone's problem. It's really a grey area, tho. Actually, here's one that I would've denied, if I was a moderator:

Indeed this is somewhat of a grey area. Not long ago the forums on asp.net were the only forums for DotNetNuke, and this forum was used both for questions on module development and announcement on new modules. I don't think anything really changed and before long we will move to dotnetnuke.com completely anyway, so the grey area will become clear then ;)

cheers,

erik

Well, it'll be clear for this forum, but there is still plenty of grey area to go around Stick out tongue [:P]

I can't see that it is a problem. I actually find it useful to quickly check the Custom Modules sub-forum periodically and get a quick update of new modules out there, whether they are commercial or not.

I agree. One definition of spam is unsolicited information...another is unwanted or unrelevent and unsolicited. just my 2 cents. Smile [:)]

Talk about an off topic post :). I've been trying out ATGen on and off a few times, and although it generates pretty amazing code, its not totally bug free... in the odd chance that you don't know where to get it, you can find it here: http://projects.apptheory.com

yeah.. off topic is better than off the cliff posts..  (see main form!!  ;)

so what do you think..  keep using CodeSmith (which I know) and VS templates ...    or try out ATGen..   I need to create a module tonight..  so not really play time.     ??

ATGen is definitely worth a try if you have some play time, but the way it works is quite different from the dnn jungle templates.

erik
