it might sound like a silly questions but I was wondering which major websites use ASP.NET and SQL. For example MSNBC or something like that ... I wanted to inform ( and impress) users on my website.

Well,

Microsoft.com uses asp.net and it is considered one of the largest sites around.

Most of the very large companies are still using ASP, simply because of the cost associated with changing technologies.

Panasonic.com and Philips.com are just two examples of ASP-driven sites.

Both of those companies DO use ASP.NET but only on their B2B applications (where they can dedicate new .NET servers for the purpose). I know firsthand because both were clients of mine :)

With the release of ASP.NET 2.0, Whidbey and all that jazz, I think you will see it become more commonplace.

Jean,
generally, major websites use custom server side engine, not asp, php, cfm, etc. But I know a lot of companies witch use ASP.NET and SQL for their applications.
But, hey, I see you use hotmail.com. This is Microsoft too, to make a point.

Here is a list: Microsoft, Barnes & Noble, Dell, Panasonic, Philips
B&N uses asp on some parts of the webiste. but what the hell :)
