server time out error. please help

Hi,
i had loaded a asp.net web site on my iis.
this site is getting many hits at a time. this site is accesing data from a seperate SQl server . both the web server and SQL server are on the same network and i am accesing the SQL server using the IP of that SQL server.
but when the site is opened by more visitors, i am getting the following error.

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.

after this error, ususally i used to restart IIS and the site will work fine.
but how can i solve this problem? what is this error? is it the problem of IIS configuration? please help me.

Hi Suoj,

The error that you are getting is NOT because of too many visitors logging onto the web site, but it is due to total connections exceeding the max connection pool limit.

As I see it, there are very few scenarios when this will happen,

1. SQL Connections not closed after the use.
2. Improper error handling. (try catch)

I will advice you to check your source code where you open sql connection and make sure that you are closing them after the work has finished.

Hi, thank for your reply.
but as i know that this may happen if we not closed the open connection, i am taking extra care to make sure that i am closing all the open connection in my code.

and i tried the "Connect Timeout=180" on my connection string for a testing and then it seems that it is waiting for the connection infinitly. here i am not getting the time out error, but the page is not loading. ie searching searching.. and go on.

and another thing is i just bought a second web server and second SQL server. i configured this site on that server and pointed the domain to this server, and to my surprice, i am not getting this error. all the number of visitors are all same, but on one server i am not geting this error. if i configured this site on another server, i am getting this error. both server s are of same configuration.

that is why i am surprised may be any onfiguration seettings on IIS.
please help me
