when moving a "tab" in my toolbox, visual studio instead deleted my "tab" that had the datasource controls and gridview/formview/etc controls in it.  i can no longer use the design view wizard to add a datasource to a control, as the white box at the top of the wizard is empty and contains no icons to choose from any more.  another thing that started happening is that whenever i copy text, visual studio puts a "control" in my toolbox with the copied text.  needless to say, the toolbox fills up very fast when i copy several things.

i've tried to "reset toolbox" three different ways but visual studio crashes every time.  i've also tried to import old settings, but nothing changes.  i then tried to reset all settings, but i get "Error 1:  A fatal error has occurred that prevented settings from being reset."

is there a way to fix my toolbox without uninstalling and reinstalling?

Try running devenv /resetsettings and devenv /setup from command line.
