OES2 Stretch cluster with HP EVA8/5/2008 11:31:42 PM

Hi,

We're building an stretch cluster with OES2 and NCS, having one HP EVA
SANs and 6 cluster nodes at each site.

For the SAN replication we need HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA
software.

But HP told us we'll also need the following software to build the
whole solution:
- HP StorageWorks Cluster Extension EVA software
- HP ServiceGuard for Linux

Could anyone confirm that? reading the HP documentation, it seems that
some funcionalities of both products overlap with NCS.

Regards
Jose Luis

I implemented a stretched cluster, and did not purchase any replication
software.
I mirrored a partition on site A to a partition on site B.

You don't _need_ it but it does make some tings easier.

You need the HP software if you want to have the SANs mirrored at a
level "underneath" the NOS, ei.e. at the hardware level. It will also
facilitate the scripting that will automagically swap the pool/volume
from a downed SAN to the up SAN.

This could be useful when you're in a disaster-type situation. I
generally recommend it's better to pay a little extra for stuff that
will make your life a lot easier and less error-prone when the stuff
starts hitting the fan.
